
The ‘Golden Disc Awards’ announced on October 23 the list of ‘Golden Disc Powerhouse 40,’ highlighting influential figures who have shaped the history of Korean popular music. The selection was made by 50 industry professionals, including producers, composers, lyricists, and other music experts.
The list features legendary artists such as Kim Gun Mo, Kim Kwang Seok, Kim Min Ki, Kim Wan Sun, Kim Eana, Kim Chang Hwan, Kim Hyun Sik, Kim Hyung Suk, Na Hoona, TVXQ, Deux, Deulgukhwa, and J.Y. Park.
In addition, globally recognized acts including Bang Si Hyuk, BTS, BoA BLACKPINK, Big Bang, Seo Taiji, Girls’ Generation, Shin Seung Hun, Psy, and IU were also included. Other notable names in the Powerhouse 40, listed alphabetically, are Yoon Il Sang, Lee Moon Sae, Lee Soo Man, Lee Young Hoon, Lee Hyori, Lim Young Woong, Cho Yong Pil, G-Dragon, KENZIE, Teddy, god, and H.O.T.
Singers made up the largest portion of the list, with a balanced selection representing each generation of idols as well as widely loved mainstream artists.
Seo Taiji was praised for his contributions to the development of popular music across genres such as rap, rock, and new jack swing, earning the title of “Cultural President” for his influence on fashion and dance trends. BTS was recognized for bringing K-pop to the forefront of the global music market, achieving a record number of consecutive grand prizes and becoming the first to simultaneously win both digital and album awards.
The ‘40th Golden Disc Awards’ are set to take place on January 10 next year at the Taipei Dome in Taiwan.
