Kim Taehyung, aka V of BTS, is attracting attention for his decision to join theSpecial Task Force of the Army’s Capital Defense Command for his mandatory military enlistment.
According to recent reports, Taehyung will enter the Nonsan Training Center on December 11 for their basic military training and will then be assigned to their respective units.
This ‘special mission unit,” commonly referred to as SDT (Special Duty Team), is a military police unit deployed at the headquarters, corps, and division levels of each military unit to carry counter-terrorism operations, initial response to violent crimes, arrest of armed deserters within the military, special operations , and mobile strikes in urban areas.
SDT is known for conducting anti-terrorism and urban warfare training, carrying out initial response measures, anti-terrorism operations, VIP protection, apprehension of armed deserters, and general disaster relief missions.
Members undergo training in physical fitness, combat techniques, various anti-terrorism tactics, explosives handling, sniper training, and rappelling, among others. Continuous rigorous training for the members is required even after they’ve joined.
As they need to be well-equipped for various special missions, recruitment into this unit is highly selective, involving rigorous document screening, interviews, and physical evaluations.
According to the timeline outlined in the “Army Specialist Recruitment Plan for September 2023,” Taehyung applied between August 31 and September 6. After passing the physical fitness and interview evaluations, Taehyung’s acceptance into the unit was announced on October 26.
The news of Taehyung joining the Special Task Force spread like wildfire across various social media platforms, and Taehyung surged to the top of Google Trends, becoming the #1 topic in relation to “Military.”
