Japanese Kabuki actor Ichikawa Danko, a longtime fan of Kim Taehyung, aka V of BTS, has once again expressed his enduring admiration.

A recent pre-performance interview for Ichikawa Danko, the fifth-generation heir of a prestigious Kabuki family and widely recognized as the “Prince of Kabuki,” drew attention when he shared his thoughts and determination.

When asked by the interviewer what his current favorite is, Danko replied, “I’ve always liked BTS’s Taetae.”

He went on to say, “I’ve always liked BTS’s Taetae. To put it a little boldly, the way Taetae expresses power when dancing feels somewhat similar to Kabuki. The ebb and flow of intensity in his dance—it’s a bit like the surging of waves, which is quite similar.”

Ichikawa Danko’s words show that his affection has remained unchanged for five years. Back in December 2020, when he was 16, Ichikawa Danko first revealed his admiration for Taehyung in an interview with Japanese pop culture media outlet Natalie.

When asked what he was enjoying at the time, he replied, “BTS! During the social distancing period, I learned Taetae’s part of the choreography in ‘DNA.’ I like Taetae. I’m so happy I can see him through the screen.”

In Japan, Kabuki holds a highly prestigious status, recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Kabuki actors, inheriting tradition with craftsmanship and artistry, are respected and admired beyond the level of ordinary celebrities.

As a successor of a renowned Kabuki family, Ichikawa Danko is often described as a prince-like figure in Japan. Recently, the Kabuki-themed live-action film “National Treasure” became a massive hit, breaking new records in the Japanese film industry.

Taehyung, affectionately called “Taetae” in Japan, enjoys immense popularity. Among Japan’s MZ Generation, he is one of the most beloved Korean stars, with men in particular enthusiastically emulating his style.

Not only the entertainment industry, but also prominent figures in politics, business, art, and sports count themselves as Taehyung’s fans. From Yusaku Maezawa, billionaire entrepreneur and founder of Japan’s largest online shopping mall ZOZOTOWN, to renowned calligrapher Yoshimi Aoki, JLPGA prize money leader Sakura Koiwai, and figure skater Rino Matsuike, many celebrities are devoted admirers of Taehyung.

Earlier this month, Japanese actor Takashi Okabe even went viral when he mimicked the V signature pose while throwing the ceremonial first pitch at a Nippon Professional Baseball game.
