Different year-end charts giving comprehensive performance rankings of artists through the year 2023 continue to demonstrate the splendid success of Jimin’s solo debut. His stellar performance has particularly been unrivaled in his home country, South Korea, where he has beendominating different streaming and sales charts ever since the release of his album back in March 2023.
In streaming, his album ‘FACE‘ emerged as the most streamed album by a soloist on Melon in 2023, whereas ‘Like Crazy‘ was the most streamed solo song by a K-pop soloist on the same platform in 2023 as reported previously.
In sales, the year-end Circle Retail Album Sales chart further cements his status as a top soloist in the country. Of note is that ‘FACE’ became the best selling album by a Korean soloist in the history of Circle album chart, having exceeded 1.65 Million copies, as of August 10 [read here and here]. Looking at the sales figures at the end of the year, the regular and Weverse versions of ‘FACE’ have accumulated a combined 1,497,786 sales on the Circle Yearly Retail Album chart.
With this figure comes yet another impressive feat in Jimin’s career as a solo artist, where he becomes the soloist with the most retail album sales in a single year in the history of this chart since its inception in 2019. Additionally, ‘FACE’ becomes the bestselling album by a solo artist on the yearly retail album chart in the history of Circle Chart.
Looking at the global performance of the album ‘FACE’, the consistency in record-breaking success remains in place. Looking back to the week of the album’s debut, ‘FACE’ ranked #1 on the United World Chart-Albums Chart after accumulating more than 1.1 million sales globally. On the other hand, his main single, ‘Like Crazy’ from the album, ranked 2nd on the singles chart. The album maintained its #1 position in its second week of release with an increased 279k units sold, which also resulted in a new record for Jimin. ‘FACE’ officially took the top rank as the biggest album debut by an artist on the chart in 2023, with a total of close to 1.4 million album units sold. With this number of sales units, ‘FACE’ now became the 3rd best-selling album of 2023 on this chart, achieving this feat in just three weeks! [For reference [read here and here].
At the end of 2023, the United World Chart’s Global Year-End Album chart ranking placed ‘FACE’ at #23 among all albums released throughout the year, making it the highest charting album by a Korean/K-pop solo artist on this year’s chart, and it was the only album by a Korean/K-pop soloist in the Top 30 of the ranking. At #23, ‘FACE’ recorded 1,809,000 equivalent sales [refer here] to make it the all-time biggest sales and highest-ranking album by a Korean/K-pop or Asian male soloist on this ranking.
