In March of this year, Jimin made his highly anticipated official solo debut, swiftly ascending to unprecedented heights on music charts both in South Korea and internationally. His impact was particularly pronounced in the United States, where he achieved remarkable success on the Billboard charts, a crucial barometer in the world’s largest music market.
Highlighting his significant accomplishments on the Billboard charts, Jimin set a record as the first Korean solo artist—and the first Asian solo artist in 65 years, second overall—to secure the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and Artist 100 charts. His debut also saw him entering the Billboard 200 chart at number 2, the highest position and sales figure achieved by a Korean solo artist at that time. To this day, Jimin is the only Korean solo artist to have reached number 1 on both the Artist 100 chart and the Hot 100 chart with a solo song. His dominance extended beyond his debut week, as he continued to achieve extraordinary results across various Billboard charts.
On November 22, Billboard unveiled its annual year-end charts, which compile performances across all its charts. These charts rank the best-performing songs, albums, and artists in various categories. Jimin’s consistent high performance since his debut resulted in a total of 13 entries across different categories as an artist, with his album ‘FACE’ and songs ‘Like Crazy’ and ‘Set Me Free Pt.2’.
These 13 entries established a new record for the highest number of entries by any Korean solo artist in a single year on the Billboard year-end charts, further solidifying Jimin’s position as a groundbreaking artist in the global music scene.
Starting with his album ‘FACE,’ Jimin ranked #193 on the End Year Billboard 200 chart, the only album by a Korean solo artist to appear on the chart. He thereby set another record as the first and only album by a Korean solo artist to ever enter this chart in its history since inception, as no other Korean soloist has ranked on this chart before.
‘FACE’ also ranked as the highest-ranking album by a Korean solo artist on the Billboard Year End World Albums chart at #7.
For his lead single ‘Like Crazy‘, the song ranked #5 on the Billboard Year End Digital Song Sales chart as the highest-ranking song by a Korean solo artist on the chart, while ‘Set Me Free Pt.2’ ranked #29. ‘Like Crazy‘ thus becomes the first and only song by an Asian soloist and the first and only Korean solo song to enter the top 5 of this chart in its entire history.
The song was also the highest-ranking solo song by a Korean solo artist on the Billboard Year End Global 200 and Global Excl. US charts, making it one of the biggest K-pop songs globally this year.
As an artist, Jimin again became a shining star on the Billboard End Year Digital Song Sales Artists chart, ranking at #6 as the highest-placed Korean solo artist, not just in 2023 but in the history of the chart since its inception. He is also the only Korean solo artist to rank on the Billboard Year-End World Albums Artists chart at #7.
