In the age of social media and instant information, a simple mistake can quickly snowball into a full-blown controversy. In the worst-case scenario, the wrong person might receive the blow of the social media community.
Recently, photographer German Larkin who took a beautiful photo of BLACKPINK’s Lisa and BTS’s V, was attacked by fans when his photo was mistakenly captioned by a Vogue writer. The Vogue writer captioned the photo of Lisa and V as Jennie Kim and Kim Tae Hyung, which brought outrage among many BLACKPINK fans.
Some of these fans resorted to attacking the photographer who was named in the photo and took to his social media page to leave nasty comments.
On the receiving end of a hoard of malicious comments, photographer German Larkin decided to speak up and clarified that he was not the one who captioned the photo and was not even responsible for writing the article.
He explained, “I DON’T work in VOGUE and I DON’T write captions to photos. This is NOT my job to submit texts or details about my images. You can clearly see I’m not the writer of this article. STOP harassing me! And you’all [sic] better remove your negative comments and APOLOGIZE to me, otherwise, I will never share her images ever again. Period.”
Fortunately, some BLACKPINK fans have apologized to the photographer for the other fans’ illogical attack against him and wrote, “We LISA fans apologize for the comments and messages you got sir and the words you didn’t deserve, please this is a mistake of fans, don’t take it to the realm of your working relationship with Lisa, Lisa is a very kind angel” and “Please forgive the fans who made you uncomfortable, they were wrong on target, please forgive us, your photo work is very beautiful and professional, don’t stop working with Lisa.”
