Earlier, it was reported that the city of Seoul had approved for BTS to use the Gwanghwamun Square for their ‘BTS 2026 Comeback Show, Seoul.’ Further details have been revealed, and it has been confirmed BTS received conditional approval.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on January 22 that it held the inaugural Gwanghwamun Plaza Advisory Committee Meeting and decided to grant conditional approval for the use of the plaza for ‘BTS 2026 Comeback Show, Seoul,’ an event proposed by HYBE and Big Hit Music.
BTS is set to unveil their new album, ‘Arirang,’ on March 3, marking their first release in three years and nine months. The group plans to present the album for the first time at Gwanghwamun Plaza. It has also been reported that BTS submitted applications to the Cultural Heritage Administration to utilize areas surrounding Gyeongbokgung Palace, Gwanghwamun, and Sungnyemun.
Seoul officials stated that final approval will be granted swiftly once the safety management plan passes review, provided that additional measures are implemented to prevent overlap in performer and audience exit times and to minimize traffic disruptions.
Given expectations of massive crowds gathering in and around downtown Seoul, including Gwanghwamun Plaza, the city emphasized that it will conduct a thorough review of safety plans and work closely with police and relevant agencies to ensure public safety. Authorities will also carry out advance inspections to prevent unfair practices, such as excessive hotel pricing, while closely monitoring traffic conditions and citizen safety. Inspection targets include 280 locations in Jongno District near Gwanghwamun Plaza and 411 locations in Jung District.
On the day of the concert, Seoul plans to operate a variety of experiential programs for international visitors, including members of BTS’s global fandom ARMY. To celebrate the group’s comeback, the city will create a welcoming atmosphere across Seoul and offer diverse attractions by combining K-pop with broader Korean Wave content.
Kim Chang Gyu, Head of Seoul’s Balanced Development Headquarters, stated, “We will prioritize the safety of not only concertgoers but also citizens and tourists visiting Gwanghwamun Plaza to participate in various events, by thoroughly reviewing and implementing safety management plans.” He added, “We will also prepare a wide range of events and experiences that allow visitors to fully appreciate Seoul’s charm and beauty, turning this into an opportunity for Gwanghwamun Plaza to emerge as a global K-pop landmark.”
