A wreath protest demanding the withdrawal of BTS member Suga, who recently sparked controversy over a drunk driving incident, has taken place.
Starting at 8 PM on the 13th, a protest featuring wreaths calling for Suga’s withdrawal from BTS has been ongoing in front of the HYBE building in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
The protestors displayed messages such as “Min Yoongi, leave the team,” “You were the one who let go of our hands,” and “Before standing in the photo line,” directly referencing Suga by his real name, Min Yoongi, in a derogatory manner.
The anonymous ARMY (BTS fandom name) who organized this protest stated to our newspaper, “This is not a coordinated action by the entire fandom, as these wreaths were sent by individuals,” adding, “We held this protest because no action was taken after HYBE, Big Hit Music, and Suga released false statements.”
Since Suga was caught by the police on the 6th for driving an electric scooter while intoxicated, public opinion has turned increasingly critical. Specifically, fans have expressed frustration after Big Hit Music and Suga referred to the scooter as an “electric kickboard” and claimed that he only “drank one glass of beer,” even though his blood alcohol level was measured at 0.227%, indicating significant intoxication.
Some ARMYs have taken to social media to demand Suga’s withdrawal from the group. However, posts from other ARMYs who continue to support and stand by Suga have also surfaced, leading to a heated debate within the fandom.
The ARMY who organized this protest mentioned that if Big Hit Music does not release an additional statement, they would consider escalating the protest by staging a truck protest.
