Travel variety shows have become a powerful tool for K-pop artists to connect with their global fan base. These shows often showcase a mix of adventure, culture, and personal moments, providing a holistic view of the idols’ personalities beyond their onstage personas.

Let’s delve into five popular travel variety shows by veteran K-pop boy groups.

BON VOYAGE (BTS)

BTS takes fans on a journey worldwide with their travel variety show, “BON VOYAGE.” The show follows the members as they navigate different countries, face various challenges, and bond over unforgettable experiences. From backpacking in Northern Europe to exploring the stunning landscapes of New Zealand, the show offers fans an intimate look at BTS’s dynamics outside of the stage.

EXO’s Travel the World on a Ladder (EXO)

“EXO’s Travel the World on a Ladder” follows the members as they journey through various cities, determined by a spinning ladder. The unpredictability adds a fun twist to the show, and viewers get to witness the members’ spontaneity as they explore hidden gems and immerse themselves in local cultures. To date, the series boasts a compelling collection of four seasons.

GOT7 REAL THAI (GOT7)

“GOT7 REAL THAI” unfolded in Thailand, featuring Mark, Jinyoung, Youngjae, and BamBam from the group. Their mission was to discover the seven wonders of Thailand, leading to an engaging blend of humor, challenges, and touching instances. The series captures their journey through a variety of experiences, including sampling indigenous cuisine and engaging in traditional ceremonies.

Knights of the Lamp (Super Junior)

“Knights of the Lamp” is a 2023 travel variety show highlighting the unpredictable trip of the six “knights” as they venture into the land of mystery, Saudi Arabia. Their “quest” is to embark on a captivating journey in search of a genie’s lamp, promising to grant them their wishes. The show features six Super Junior members: Leeteuk, Shindong, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Ryeowook, and Kyuhyun.

2PM WILD BEAT (2PM)

“WILD BEAT” is a captivating travel variety series starring the members of 2PM, where they embark on an Australian adventure. The members immerse themselves in various spontaneous part-time jobs to fund their meals and accommodations throughout the show. As the K-pop industry continues to evolve, travel variety shows will likely remain a popular medium for artists to share their adventures and foster a deeper connection with their audience.
