The love between an idol and their fans is something special and admirable, but sometimes there are instances where fans overstep boundaries, and those who do are coined as “sasaengs.” “Sasaeng” is a term that means an obsessive fan who acts in ways that invade the privacy of Korean stars and over the years there have been many instances where the celebrity’s lives have been at risk. Here are eight of the most scariest sasaeng moments in K-Pop history.
Please be forewarned, some of these moments are extremely disturbing.
1. TVXQ Yunho & Crazy Glue: Back in 2006, the fellow leader of TVXQ kindly accepted orange juice from someone he thought was a staff member. However upon consumption, he began to feel sick and noted an odd chemical smell to the bottle. It was later reported, that the orange juice was filled with crazy glue, and was from an anti-fan who was trying to take steps to kill the singer. Terrifying.
2. 2PM & Menstrual Pad: While it was more common for idols to receive fan letters, one specific letter caught the attention of the K-Pop world. A letter written to 2PM Taecyeon became a hot issue because this letter was actually written with the fan’s menstrual blood. Gross.
3. Super Junior Heechul & Car Accident: In an attempt to escape fans who were relentlessly following his car around, Heechul ended up driving various routes to confuse the fans only to get into a pretty severe car accident resulting in a broken leg.
4. BTS & Sweden Chase: In the midst of filming in Sweden, BTS had a pit stop at a cafe to take a short break. But rather than having a relaxing time, fans who recognized them ended up chasing after the boys when they left the cafe.
5. Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon & Attempted Kidnapping: During a performance, Girls’ Generation’s Taeyeon can be seen being forcefully dragged off the stage by a fan, completely caught off guard it was a close call, but luckily security came just in time to help the star.
6. Kim Jae Joong & Sneaky Sauna: Imagine having someone sneak up to you while you’re sleeping. At Korean sauna’s there’s a section where you can go into a sleep pod, and Kim Jae Joong was restfully napping only for a saesang to sneakily come in and take a snapshot, uploading the photo onto social media. Creepy.
7. BTS Jungkook & Food Delivery: While hosting a live broadcast in his home, BTS Jungkook had someone ring the doorbell. Upon hearing the “ding dong” BTS Jungkook warned fans that he wouldn’t accept any food that is being delivered to his home that he did not personally order . Giving the indication that this wasn’t the first instance that fans have sent food delivery to his home. Additionally, even the singer himself mentioned “Don’t you all know where I live and what my address is?”
8. EXO & Crossdressers: Out of all places, you would think you would get some privacy in a restroom. But not for EXO, as they were on a bathroom break they were mobbed by fans who ended up cross dressing as males to enter into the bathroom. Yep, that’s a great way to gain the love and trust of your favorite idol.
