Big Hit Music takes legal action to protect BTS against organized malicious posters and IP violations

Big Hit Music has taken legal action against organized malicious posters targeting BTS, emphasizing that offenders will be held fully accountable. Some individuals have already been fined.

On March 26, Big Hit Music released the ‘Status of Legal Actions Regarding BTS Rights Violations for Q1 2026.’

The agency confirmed that several individuals were found guilty of defamation and violations under the Information and Communications Network Act, with fines imposed on many. Big Hit Music also detected organized activity across online communities. The agency stated, “We have observed patterns in multiple platforms, such as theqoo, where coordinated posts spread malicious content and generate negative comments targeting our artists.”

A spokesperson added, “We will pursue legal responsibility to the fullest extent against those spreading false rumors about the artists’ albums, performances, or content, as well as those engaging in excessive malicious posts and organized comment campaigns.”

The team monitoring and documenting malicious posts has been significantly expanded, and legal action against communities themselves is under review. “Even deleted posts can be subject to punishment. There will be no settlements or leniency,” the spokesperson emphasized.

BTS’s management also highlighted serious concerns over intellectual property (IP) infringements. In cooperation with the Intellectual Property Office, Customs Service, and Special Judicial Police, Big Hit Music is cracking down on wholesale suppliers of illegal goods, unauthorized sales near concert venues, customs violations, and illegal online platforms.

“Illegal products using the artists’ IP violate their rights and may also cause financial harm to fans during purchase,” the spokesperson warned. “To protect the artists’ IP and prevent fan losses, we strongly urge avoiding purchases of illegal goods.”

Meanwhile, BTS is set to appear as a full group on the U.S. NBC program ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ on March 27 at 12:35 PM.
