BTS concert sparks surge in tourism complaints across Busan

By A.R.M.Y AllKpop 11/06/2026

A surge in tourism-related complaints has been reported in Busan ahead of BTS’ upcoming world tour concerts, as fans from around the globe continue to travel to the city for the highly anticipated event.

According to data released by the Korea Tourism Organization’s Tourism Data Lab on June 10 KST, a total of 368 tourism complaints were filed nationwide in May. Of those, 185 complaints were reported in Busan alone, accounting for more than half of the national total.

The figure is particularly notable as it represents nearly 77 percent of the 239 tourism complaints recorded in Busan throughout all of last year.

Accommodation-related issues made up the overwhelming majority of reports. Among the complaints filed in Busan during May, 133 involved general lodging facilities, while an additional 21 cases were related to hotels. Common concerns included unilateral reservation cancellations, excessive cancellation fees, and service-related disputes.

The increase in complaints has been widely linked to BTS WORLD TOUR ‘ARIRANG IN BUSAN,’ scheduled for June 12 and 13. Following the concert announcement, some accommodation providers reportedly canceled existing reservations and relisted rooms at significantly higher rates. Fans also raised concerns about lodging prices increasing several times above normal levels, with some reports claiming rates reached up to ten times their usual cost.

One recent incident that drew widespread attention involved a Japanese BTS fan whose reservation was allegedly canceled after contacting a lodging provider for check-in information. Screenshots shared on social media sparked criticism and prompted local authorities to review the matter.

The issue has also been acknowledged by BTS themselves. During a live broadcast following the group’s recent appearance at the American Music Awards, the members expressed concern over reports of excessive accommodation pricing.

Leader RM stated that he hoped fans visiting Busan would leave with positive memories, adding that while seasonal price differences are understandable, businesses should exercise moderation. The comments were echoed by other members, who emphasized their desire for fans to enjoy a welcoming experience during their stay.

BTS will perform at Busan Asiad Main Stadium on June 12 and 13 as part of the group’s ‘ARIRANG’ world tour, marking their first full-group concert in the city in nearly four years.
