BTS’s “Anpanman” tops Billboard World Digital Song Sales chart 7 years after release

BTS has topped a global chart 7 years and 7 months after the release of one of their songs.

On December 17th KST, Billboard unveiled its latest charts dated December 20. BTS’s “Anpanman” re-entered the World Digital Song Sales chart at No. 1.

The track is a B-side from the group’s third full-length album Love Yourself 轉 ‘Tear’, released in May 2018. It reached the top spot 7 years and 7 months after its initial release. “Anpanman” also ranked No. 7 on the Digital Song Sales chart.

As of the 8th, “Anpanman” had topped the iTunes Top Songs chart in a total of 75 countries and regions, sparking a global resurgence in popularity across markets including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, and Italy.

The song also performed strongly on the UK’s Official Charts, announced on the 13th, ranking No. 12 on the Official Singles Download chart and No. 24 on the Official Singles Sales chart.

An industry insider commented, “With BTS preparing for a full-group comeback next spring, the renewed love for this song can be seen as the result of ARMY’s collective support.”

“Anpanman” tells the story of a hero who gives pieces of himself to those who are hungry. While lacking superpowers, the song likens BTS to Anpanman—a hero who stays close for a long time. The track encapsulates the group’s sincerity and their desire to deliver hope, featuring lyrics such as “I’ll stay right by your side / I may fall again, but trust me, because I’m a hero.”

Meanwhile, the members continue to enjoy long-running success with their solo releases. Jungkook’s “Seven” (No. 150) and Jin’s “Don’t Say You Love Me” (No. 166) appeared on the Global 200 chart. On Global (Excl. U.S.), Jin’s “Don’t Say You Love Me,” Jungkook’s “Seven,” and Jimin’s “Who” ranked at No. 79, No. 81, and No. 137, respectively. BTS’s album Proof placed No. 9 on the World Albums chart.
