BTS member Suga (31, real name Min Yoon-gi) is set to appear before the police on August 22 to address charges related to drunk driving. Authorities plan to investigate the specific circumstances surrounding the incident, including whether there were any attempts to downplay the severity of the situation.
According to a police official on August 21, Suga has been coordinating his schedule and will be questioned about the events leading to his drunk driving. However, he is expected to appear at the police station privately and will not face the media at a photo line. The police stated, “We cannot deliberately set up a photo line. He will be treated the same as other suspects.”
The incident occurred late at night on August 6, when Suga was caught by police driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol in the Hannam-dong area of Yongsan District, Seoul. His blood alcohol level at the time was reported to be 0.227%, far exceeding the license revocation threshold of 0.08%.
Electric scooters are classified as “motorized bicycles” under the Automobile Management Act, and since they are considered vehicles under the Road Traffic Act, operating them while intoxicated can result in criminal charges.
Suga, who has been serving as a social service agent as part of his military duty since September last year, is expected to complete his service in June next year.
