Celebrities speak out against repeated invasive situations with sasaeng fans

By A.R.M.Y AllKpop 23/01/2024

Privacy invasion by sasaeng fans has become a significant concern for many celebrities, prompting them to speak out against these intrusive practices. On January 22, Jaejoong took to his social media account to issue a warning about sasaeng taxis, sharing his frustration and concern. He described instances of sasaeng taxis lurking in various areas, with drivers resorting to dangerous tactics. Jaejoong condemned these actions, emphasizing the emotional toll they take on individuals.

Members of EXO have also expressed their distress caused by sasaeng fans on multiple occasions. Baekhyun, for instance, posted on the fan community Bubble in March about his vocal lessons and his desire to focus on his studies without disruptions. He mentioned a sasaeng fan who had visited him, making it challenging to concentrate.

EXO’s Sehun has dealt with a barrage of phone calls, with approximately 100 calls to his personal cell phone daily. Frustrated, he stated, “I don’t change my number on purpose because even if I do, I still get calls, which is even more annoying.“

BTS’s V had a distressing encounter with a sasaeng fan who showed up at his house and handed him a marriage certificate. As a result, the fan is currently facing legal action for violating stalking laws. Additionally, Jungkook from BTS had to sternly warn sasaeng fans against sending food to his home, stating that he would take action if it happened again.

Big Hit Music, has taken a strong stance against stalking crimes that threaten the safety of their members, enforcing a zero-tolerance policy.

While there was once a tendency to view sasaeng behavior as excessive fandom, repeated complaints from celebrities about enduring sasaeng harassment for extended periods have shifted public perception. These actions are now regarded not as fan love but as criminal behavior. Despite the enactment of the Stalking Punishment Act and bans against sasaeng fans, the sasaeng culture has yet to disappear, leading to disappointment among many.
