The USA, which is the world’s largest music market by revenue according to the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) [refer here], is also one of the most challenging music markets for artists to penetrate and achieve success in, particularly for foreign artists whose music is primarily of non-English language. However, BTS‘s Jimin, a Korean artist, has been able to break the barriers and achieve astronomical success in the country with his single ‘Like Crazy’ from his solo debut album ‘FACE,’ making him an icon and a legend for Korean artists.
After he already made history with the single as the first and only Korean soloist in history and the first Asian solo artist in 60 years (2nd in history) to reach #1 on USA Billboard Hot 100 chart [read more here], Jimin is again making waves in the music industry with yet another major record!
On April 26, it was reported that ‘Like Crazy’ had now sold over 500k units in the USA, making the song eligible for RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) Gold Certification. The song accomplished this considerable feat in just 33 days, which is the shortest period for any Korean soloist to achieve this milestone. It also became the fastest song to accomplish this in 2023.
Of note is that the song had also posted the biggest sales week of 2023, the biggest sales week for any Korean soloist in history in the USA, and the third biggest pure sales week in general for any single in the USA this decade, in its first week of release.
By so doing, ‘Like Crazy’ became Jimin’s 4th song to achieve this feat after Lie, Serendipity (Full Length Edition), and Filter, all of which are his solo songs under BTS’ discography.
Jimin is now the first and only Korean Solo Artist to have four songs with more than 500k units sold in the USA.
Fans are over the moon with how well Jimin’s first album is doing globally and especially in the big music markets. They all agree that he is a very talented artist and thus deserves all the success in the world with his music!
