There have been numerous instances where Jimin has made headlines in the USA for various reasons. For instance, he stands out in social events for his godly visuals and perfect body proportions as well as his intellect and empathy in how he communicates, the media uses his images and/or video footage whenever reporting on BTS related activities and sometimes even posts him for no reason, and he always captivates the attention of the audience or viewers with his heavenly vocals and mesmerizing dance moves and become the talk of the performance. In addition, he is also very popular among celebrities and prominent individuals in other fields especially in Hollywood. For instance, he inspired a character in Pixar’s animation film ‘Turning Red’ , was selected for OSTs in two major Hollywood productions namely ‘Eternals’ and ‘Fast and Furious 10’ and even received a direct shout out from the lead actor in 2023’s biggest Hollywood movie. Evidently, Jimin is a household name in the USA.
His popularity in the USA is also demonstrated by his top performance on USA music charts and streaming platforms. For example, he became the first Korean solo artist to reach #1 on Billboard Hot 100 and Artist 100 charts and remains the only one to do so with a solo song, he holds the record for the highest number of monthly listeners for any Korean act in history on Pandora and is the only Korean solo artist with 4 songs having sold over 500k units in the USA (Filter, Lie, Serendipity FLE, Like Crazy), among many other achievements. Recently, his list of achievements in the USA has lengthened thanks to his impressive performances on Spotify.
As of the Spotify update on April 4, ‘Like Crazy’ spent its 166th day on the Spotify USA Daily Top Songs chart to set a new record as the longest-charting Korean song in the chart’s history. Overall, it is the fourth longest-charting song by a Korean act on this chart, with the first three being group songs and in English.
Additionally, just a few days earlier as of the update on Mar 27, ‘Like Crazy’ had also set another record as the most streamed Korean song in the history of Spotify USA Daily Top Songs chart on surpassing 58 million streams.
It isn’t an easy feat to achieve such success and recognition in the USA as a foreign artist singing non-English songs. The fact that Jimin has managed to make a name for himself with such results either way, is a huge testament to his power and status as an artist.
Congratulations Jimin!
