BTS has once again proven its global influence by earning three nominations at the american music awards, one of the top music award shows in the United States.
According to the nominees announced on April 14 local time, BTS is nominated for the top honor, ‘Artist of the Year.’ Having previously won the award in 2021 as the first Korean act to do so, the group is now drawing attention for a potential second win. They will compete against major global artists including Bad Bunny, Bruno Mars, Taylor Swift, and Lady Gaga.
In addition, BTS is nominated for ‘Best Male K-pop Artist’ and ‘Song of the Summer,’ with their new track ‘Swim’ included in the latter category. The song is competing with tracks such as Harry Styles’ ‘American Girls’ and Taylor Swift’s ‘Elizabeth Taylor,’ and its nomination less than a month after release highlights its strong global reception.
This achievement aligns with BTS’s recent chart success. Their fifth full length album ‘ARIRANG’ and title track ‘Swim’ simultaneously topped the billboard 200 and hot 100 charts. The album also made history as the first by a Korean act to remain at No 1 on the billboard 200 for three consecutive weeks, while ‘Swim’ has stayed within the top five of the hot 100 for three weeks.
The 2026 American Music Awards will take place on May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden arena in Las Vegas and will be broadcast live on CBS and paramount plus.
