The American Music Awards (AMA) ceremony just took place with the host as “comedian” Cardi B. Some categories have announced the winners before. The results are based on netizens’ votes, and you can even vote on TikTok, creating a great advantage for young artists.

This year, breakout teen singer Olivia Rodrigo leads with seven nominations, including Artist of the Year and New Artist of the Year. The Weeknd is close behind with six nominations, also including Artist of the Year. Competing with them are other very popular names: Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Drake and especially BTS.

Before the awards ceremony, Swift still held the record of winning Artist of the Year with six times.

She also has the opportunity to expand the record of the artist with the most AMA awards when she has 32 AMA trophies in her collection.

There are some notable changes to this year’s awards, reflecting the continued evolution of the music industry. The pop/rock category is now just pop.

Alternative rock expanded into rock. Soul/R&B is now R&B. Rap/hip-hop is now simply hip-hop. The AMA also includes categories for Favorite Trending Song, Favorite Gospel Artist, and Favorite Latin Duo/Group.

Allowing votes on TikTok also creates a great advantage for young fan artists like BTS.

As a result, BTS unexpectedly won the Artist of the Year award. They are the first and only Asian artist to win this award at the AMA. Besides, seven Kpop boys also won in the categories of Favorite Pop Duo/Group and Favorite Pop Song for Butter.

Cardi B leads this year’s AMA

This year’s AMA was also controversial when it was announced that country singer-songwriter Morgan Wallen was not allowed to participate in the ceremony even though he was nominated in two categories of Favorite Male Country Artist and Favorite Country Album. like most.

The reason is because “his conduct is not consistent with the core values” of the tournament. However, in the future, the tournament will consider if Wallen makes appropriate changes.
